It is sad! Unfortunately "teaching to the tests" has taken a lot of time away from teaching historical facts. Seriously! Our main focus is Reading and Math. Science and Social Studies~ in that order. :( Love that grandpa knew! That says a lot! I was also taught in public school and remembered all but one of those questions. I also was interested in the subject in college and remember most of the kids weren't. I had been out of school for 14 years at the time and was competing against the "typical" student. (18-21 year olds from public and private schools) I made A's and they made C's and D's. Most of them, anyway. Most kids aren't really motivated any more. I'm not sure if the fault lies with the school/teachers or with the parents. Usually, it's a combination of it all.
This is so funny, but not really! I cannot believe that we have so many ignorant people running around and then we parade them on TV for the world to see!

Those who don't remember the past are condemned to repeat it
