Memorial Day, 2011

On this Memorial Day, I'd like to remember those of my family who have served.  Please go to this post to see those members.  My step-dad passed away on Good Friday, but he is being remembered in a special way, today.

A fitting song for today is Lee Greenwood's, "God Bless the USA"!  Enjoy!

If tomorrow all the things were gone,
Id worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

Id thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they cant take that away.

And Im proud to be an American,
where at least I know Im free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
Cause there aint no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.

That Im proud to be an American,
where at least I know Im free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
Cause there aint no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

And Im proud to be and American,
where at least I know Im free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
Cause there aint no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

I love that song, and I love your post today, and the one from 2009 where you highlight the sacrifices your family has made for your freedom

Love that song! My Mimi was born on the 4th of July and died four years ago on Memorial Day. How's that for patriotism? :) Her husband, my PoppaDad, died on Good Friday, too, 25 years ago. He was buried the Monday after Easter. That was appropriate for him, because he taught Sunday School for 40 years. :)
Miss my grandparents~ if my grands miss me half as much as I miss mine, I've done something right. :)

Oh my goodness, Linda! Look at all those grandkids. I'm so glad you commented, so I could finally find you. I LOVE the handpainted ostrich eggs.
