Get on board...

It's Time For The People To Demand Change In Washington

Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits.

A maximum of 12 years only, one of the possible options below...
A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

H/T America! Oh How We'll Miss You

Looks good to me!

I think a better solution would be to ban lobbying by paid lobbyists. For example, if your local 4-H club wants to go to DC and meet with their senator about the plight of agricultural college scholarships, that's ok. But if the all 4-H clubs in the country ban together and hire a lobbyist to do that, it's illegal.

Maybe if you contribute more than $1000 to the campaign of a senator or congressman, you cannot lobby them in any way! OK, that's just crazy isn't it? SMILE

Also, the Congress needs to make a law that prohibits any political campaign contribution without disclosing where it came from.

There needs to be a hard limit to what can be spent to get elected. I know all the TV stations love $30 million primary spending to get the nomination for a state office, but Lordy that is insane!

It seems like the majority of the country believes this, but no one seems to know how to fix it.

I agree with you, Charlene (now aren't you glad you commented!).

I'd love to see a limit on lobby donations (or buy offs), and I think the TV stations needs to donate the time to each person running. Maybe that way we wouldn't have to watch those commercials go from being half-way civil to down-right mean and dirty. They also shouldn't be able to run them time after time, night after night! We need to know what their platforms are, and not 'teenage angst' occasions.

I agree with that act and I definitely agree with Charlene's comment about setting a hard limit on what a candidate can spend to get elected. It is ridiculous the amount of money that goes out when it could be put to so much more better use (and especially it is ridiculous when they do their "bashing" of their opponent).

I like it! Wish that there was a way to get it made law without going through our lawmakers.
